Shippensburg Gets Back on Winning Track, 77-36

By Matt Kellam
Mercersburg—The Shippensburg Greyhounds quashed any notion that they were looking ahead to Friday night’s match-up against the Northern York Polar Bears by soundly beating James Buchanan, 77-36 Tuesday night.

Jayden Statum scored eight of his game high 19 points in the first quarter to stake the Greyhounds, (14-4, 9-1MPC) to a 14-10 lead.

A 9-2 run to start the second quarter pushed the lead to 11 before Caden Stoner hit a three to break the run.

Shippensburg took at 32-19 lead into halftime.

Six points in a row by Anthony Smith and a Jeremy Thomas lay-up pushed the lead to 17, 40-23, midway through the third quarter and the Greyhounds would expand that lead to 22 by the end of the quarter.

Both coaches cleared the benches early in the 4th quarter as the Shippensburg lead continued to grow.

Isaiah Houser scored 13 and Smith added 11 in addition to the 19 by Statum.

Cyrus Maldanaldo led the Rockets, (9-9, 4-8MPC) with eight points.

Notes: The Greyhounds took the season series by a combined 161-76. Northern knocked off Big Spring, 63-43, Tuesday night to set up a showdown Friday night.  A win by the Greyhounds would give them a share of the Mid Penn Colonial title.
