Trojans’ Nichter brothers reach Beast of the East quarterfinals

NEWARK, Del. — Chambersburg’s Tate Nichter and Luke Nichter each won three bouts Saturday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Beast of the East wrestling tournament at the University of Delaware.

Tate Nichter, wrestling as the sixth seed at 152 pounds, had a major decision, an 8-2 verdict and a 5-1 win over Gettysburg’s Luke Sainato in the third round. He will take on No. 3 seed Kolby Allred of Great Bridge, Va. in the Sunday morning quarters.

At 160, No. 4 seed Luke Nichter had a pin in 50 seconds, a 19-2 technical fall in 3:18 and a 9-4 win over Andy Clark of Collingswood, N.J. He takes on No. 5 Luca Augustine of Waynesburg in the quarterfinals.

Also at 160, Mercersburg Academy’s Aurelius Dunbar, of Greencastle, won four bouts to get into the quarters, including a 6-5 nod over Thomas Stewart of Blair in the last bout. He battles No. 1 seed Andrew Cerniglia of Notre Dame Green Pond in the next round.

Chambersburg native Jack Wimmer, who wrestles for McDonogh School of Baltimore, got himself into the 195 quarterfinals with a pin, a major and a 9-3 win. The No. 4 seed meets up with No. 5 Jackson Talbott of Central Dauphin on Sunday.

Also for Chambersburg, Karl Shindledecker won his first three matches, but fell in his fourth match, 2-1 to No. 5 seed Dayton Delviscio of Malvern Prep.

Through Saturday’s wrestling, the Trojans stand 16th in the team standings of the 134-team tournament.

Still alive in the consolation brackets are Shindledecker, Carson Mello (170) and Wyatt Hull (220).
