WINCHESTER, VA. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers took care of business early and thrashed Mountain View Christian 62-10 Thursday evening in a non-league boys basketball game.
The Blazers (2-1) scored 29 points in the first quarter and then blanked Mountain View in the second period en route to a 50-3 halftime bulge. Coach Austin Sanders was able to substitute liberally from the second quarter on.
“I was proud of the way this team focused on getting everyone involved,” Sanders said. “All 10 guys were able to play, and everyone had a positive impact in some way.”
For the Blazers, juniors Caleb Eckert (18 points) and Blaine Minnier (10 points) scored in double figures despite playing sparingly after the Blazers built the insurmountable lead.
Also scoring were Nollin Egolf, Josh Rowe and Spencer Rathel with six points each, Isaac Kauffeldt, Ryan Winters and Aaron Minnier with four points apiece, and Kenneth Hott and Noah Randolph with two points each.
In rebounding, Blaine Minnier had a team-high six rebounds, Eckert and Rowe five each, and Rathel and Aaron Minnier four each. Blaine Minnier and Egolf led in assists with three each, while Eckert and Egolf each picked off five steals.
The Blazers forced 31 turnovers and led 34-24 in rebounding.
