Windber, Pa. – The McConnellsburg Spartan Boys’ Soccer Team left town with the support and enthusiasm of a proud school and community as they headed to Windber Stadium for their matchup with Lancaster Country Day School. The game began with a temperature of 40 degrees and a cold rain. It quickly heated up, when Landon Seiders scored at the 36:26 minute of the first half for the Spartans. However, 24 seconds later LCD tied the game. Even with McConnellsburg controlling the midfield play, the game went to halftime tied 1 to 1.

The second half saw play go back and forth without any balls finding the back of the net for either team. McConnellsburg got 3 straight corners at the 17 minute mark, but were unable to convert. With 10 seconds left, McConnellsburg cleared an LCD corner to send the game into overtime. The first overtime saw more of the same with both teams unable to convert. McConnellsburg had several chances to score in the second overtime, but could not find the back of the net. LCD received a red card at the 2 minute mark, yet the game remained knotted at 1 at the end of the period. Five kickers from each team would face off against each other in the penalty kick period. McConnellsburg goal keeper Caleb Strait made several great saves on LCD shots. After a McConnellsburg miss and an LCD score, the game ended with penalty kicks at 4 to 3.

The Spartans end their magical season with a record of 21 wins and 1 loss and their first District V title in 18 years.
