COLONIAL PARK — Chambersburg was tied with heavily-favored Central Dauphin at halftime, but the Rams scored twice in the second half.
CD’s 3-1 victory in a District 3 Class 4A girls soccer first-round game Tuesday evening at Landis Field ended the Trojans’ season with an 11-8 record.
“I was very proud of the way the girls came out and played today,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said.
The Trojans just lost 5-0 to the Rams last week.
CD’s Taylar Luckenbill hit a free kick from about 40 yards out on cage and it managed to get through the goalkeeper and into the net just 4:23 into the game, which began in rainy conditions.
But Chambersburg evened it up about nine minutes later when a ball that got away from the Rams’ keeper went to Aubrey Pyne and she knocked it into the goal for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
In the second half, Central Dauphin took the lead when Maggie Doherty scored on a rebound of her own shot. Then Luckenbill finished it off when she headed in a free kick by Jeena Pressley with just under six minutes left.
Franchi said, “They scored twice in the second half, and we had a couple of nice chances that we weren’t able to punch in.
“I couldn’t be prouder of the way they played today, or for all year for that matter.”
The No. 5 seed Rams (14-1-3) will play at No. 4 Ephrata (19-1-2) in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
