Chambersburg 7, Greencastle-Antrim 1: Freshman Aubrey Pyne knocked in three goals and sophomore Brooke Huntsman added a pair to lead the Trojans over the Blue Devils.
The non-league win at Trojan Stadium enabled the Trojans to finish the regular season with an 11-7 record and gain a berth in the District 3 Class 4A playoffs, which begin Tuesday with an away game. G-A finished with an 8-10 mark.
“We ended on a high note,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “The girls wanted to come out quick and they did, scoring two minutes into the game.”
Lindsey Swanger scored that goal, which was followed by halftime with goals from Pyne and Huntsman, on assists from Gianna Weigel and Adeline Williams.
In the second half, Huntsman got her second, followed by two more from Pyne, as Ahsia Thomas had an assist. Pyne now has a team-leading 11 goals.
Greencastle broke through on a goal by Avery Parks, but Chambersburg scored late on a goal by Layne Kimple, assisted by Ashley Bawell.
Franchi said, “Kimple and Bawell are both seniors, so it was to see them get that goal on Senior Night. I was very pleased with the effort rate from beginning to end.”
Central Dauphin 3, Chambersburg 0: The Rams stayed on top of the Trojans all night, picking up games of 25-16, 25-18 and 25-18 to collect a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory Thursday.
Chambersburg finished the regular season with a 12-6 record (8-6 MPC), and will have a first-round match for the District 3 Class 3A playoffs on the road on Saturday, Oct. 26.
“We played a little flat tonight and didn’t execute very well on offense,” Trojan assistant coach Bobby Culler said. “CD didn’t make very many mistakes. We just could not build any kind of rhythm or momentum. Now we’ll wait and see where we land in the postseason.”
For Chambersburg, Taylor Myers led in digs with 18 and added 5 service points. Marlee Wrights came up with 9 kills and 2 blocks, while Rachael Meyers had 6 kills and Isabella Fidler had 4 kills and 13 digs.
