“They scored a couple of cheap goals early, but our girls kept fighting hard,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “The bounces just didn’t go our way tonight. I told the girls not to let this result affect the way they’ve been playing.

“We’ve come a long way this season and shouldn’t let one bad result ruin it. We need to keep fighting, supporting each other, stay positive and play together. Nether Dean played her heart out in the game today.”

The Trojans (10-7) finished 7-5 in the Commonwealth. They host Greencastle-Antrim on Thursday night to finish the regular season, and are expected to qualify for the District 3 4A playoffs. They are currently No. 14 and the top 16 qualify.

Central Dauphin is 13-1-3.

BOYS SOCCER
Central Dauphin 4, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans halved the deficit from the last time they played the Rams, but CD still controlled the Mid Penn Commonwealth game Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.

Chambersburg (10-5-1) finished 8-4 in the Commonwealth, and has one game left — at Greencastle-Antrim on Thursday — before the District 3 playoffs. The Trojans are currently No. 8 in the power rankings and if they hold that place, they’ll host a first-round game.

CD (16-1-1) tied with Cumberland Valley for first place in the division.

“They’re a great team — they’re unbeaten in 16 straight games and shutting teams out left and right; the best team we’ve played this year,” Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said. “Our goal was to minimize mistakes in the back — you pretty much have to be perfect against teams like CD, otherwise they make you pay for every little mistake you make.

“Now we have to shift our mindset to a big match-up with Greencastle.”

Thursday’s game at Greencastle will be available on live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com or TheSportsPage.blog, starting at 6:45 p.m.
