FLEETWOOD — Franklin County had three golfers compete Monday in the PIAA East Regional Golf Tournament at Golden Oaks Golf Club — one qualified for states and two had their seasons ended.
Waynesboro sophomore Devin Smith earned a berth in the PIAA Tournament by tying for seventh in Class 3A boys. Smith shot an even-par 72 to finish five shots back of the winner, Morgan Lofland of Conestoga.
Smith put together a string of three consecutive birdies on the front side, beating par on Nos. 3, 4 and 5, to finish the nine with a 34. On the back side, he shot 38, which included bogeys on the two par 5s.
In Class 2A boys, Caleb Reath of James Buchanan just missed the qualifying number by one stroke. He shot a 10-over par 82, and the cut for states was 81. Reath birdied No. 3 and shots nines of 41-41.
Ella Lowry of Waynesboro also came close to the cut in 3A girls. She shot a 10-over par 82 and missed by two shots. Lowry, who carded a birdie on No. 6, shot 39-43, and her second nine was hurt by a trio of double bogeys.
