Forbes Road 7 Fairfield 1
Fairfield, Pa. – The Forbes Road field hockey team (11-2) took to the road Friday afternoon for their third match in three days. The Cardinals launched their attack early scoring in the first 3 minutes on a crossed ball sent by Emma Gelvin to Kaelonni Lashinsky awaiting on left post. Quincy McMath scored the first of her two goals on a send from Harlie Strait just under a minute later. The Green Knights progressed down the field to earn a couple penalty corners midway through the half but the Cardinal defense thwarted all their attempts. Gelvin would be the next Cardinal to find the cage on a ball rebounded off the pads of Annalise Cromer, Fairfield’s keeper. Minutes later, Lashinsky found the cage once again on a corner play sent to her by Shelby Harnish. McMath struck shortly thereafter for her second goal on a breakaway. Madison Hays rounded out the scoring for the first half, with just a minute left, assisted by Lashinsky.
A slower paced second half resulted in some midfield play until the Cardinals made another run at the circle to earn a series of penalty corners. Gelvin added her second goal at the 19 minute mark on a ball sent to her by freshman Kayla Baker. With just a minute remaining in play, Green Knight Madelyn Neiderer, slipped a goal in to get Fairfield on the scoreboard.
