The James Buchanan Lady Rocket volleyball team won its fourth straight match, including 2 road wins Monday and Tuesday.
Tuesday at Big Spring, the Lady Rockets won 3-0 by set scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-10. JB also won 3-0 at Gettysburg on Monday. The set scores were 25-17, 25-18 and 25-17.
In the first set vs. Big Spring, JB (5-2) trailed 4-0, but quickly turned things around. Rylynn Welsh (7 points) and Mackenzie Stoner (9 points) ran off big service runs in the third set to close out the third set and match.
JB coach Erica Piper said, “It was nice to see the team build on last night’s win with more consistent play. We got better each set, which is all you can really ask of the girls. Right now we are passing more consistently and keeping the ball in play and making the other team work hard. Our serves tonight kept them out of rhythm and helped us gain control of the match. Hopefully we can make it three road wins in a row on Thursday (vs. Northern).”
State leaders vs. Big Spring were: Kills: Welsh 12, Stoner 5, Lydia Jones 4, Campbelle Dayley 4. Blocks: Dayley 3. Assists: Carly Sollenberger 21. Digs: Stoner 19, Welsh 14, Dayley 12, Lydia Jones 9, Brinn Seville 7. Service points: Welsh 18, Stoner 17, Jones 15.
Piper said about the Gettysburg match, “I thought we played one of our better matches. We were much more consistent and were able to eliminate some of the passing mistakes that have been slowing us down. It allowed us to run our offense and play from ahead most of the night.”
Stat leaders vs. Gettysburg were: Kills: Dayley 10, Welsh 8, Stoner 4. Blocks: Dayley 2, Makena Clayton 2. Assists: Sollenberger 18. Digs: Welsh 12, Dayley 10, Seville 9. Service points: Welsh 11, Seville 11, Stoner 9, Sollenberger 6.
