Field Hockey 9/12/19 Forbes Road Downs Huntingdon

Forbes Road 5 Huntingdon 0

Huntingdon, Pa. – The Forbes Road Cardinal field hockey team (3-1) traveled to Huntingdon on Thursday afternoon to take on the Bearcats in a hot and humid afternoon match. The Cardinals brought their attack, as was evident by the 19 corners they earned in just the first 30 minutes of play.  Capitalizing on those corners proved to be the challenge of the day. The Cardinal stickers scored just one goal at the 17:21 mark in the first half. Senior Shelby Harnish picked up a rebound off of Bearcat goalie Madison Burkley’s pads.  The half would end at 1-0 in Forbes’ favor.

The second half would be more of the same. The Bearcats played with their backs to the cage for the majority of the half defending 16 more FR corners. The relentless FR attack was able to score 4 more goals all as a result of that corner play. Senior Hailey Dodson sent a bullet of a direct shot right into the cage off corner inserter Quincy McMath’s pass 2 minutes into the half.  Five minutes later on another corner Madison Hays would strike on a send from Dodson taking the score to 3-0.  Forward Harlie Strait picked up a rebound in front of the cage to net her goal with 8 minutes remaining. Dodson, who spent most of her summer and pre-season with a booted, broken foot, rallied and scored her second goal for the day, and final goal of the game, with just 30 seconds remaining. Freshman Carly Skinner earned the assist. There was no JV game.

The Cardinals are on a break until next Friday, September 20, when they take on Fairfield at home.
