Cumberland Valley 3, Chambersburg 2: The Trojans held a 2-1 lead after taking Games 2 and 3 by scores of 25-17 and 25-18, but CV rallied to pick up the win in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match Thursday night at CASHS Field House.
The Eagles took Game 4, 25-15, then rolled to a 15-7 edge in the deciding fifth set.
“It was a real back-and-forth battle,” Chambersburg assistant coach Bobby Culler said. “We served tough and passed the ball really well, but CV played great defense and frustrated us offensively.”
For the Trojans (3-2, 2-2 MPC), Robyn Stepler produced 10 service points and three aces, had 21 assists and added a pair of blocks.
Willa Moats was also all over the scorebook, with 5 points, 19 assists, 14 digs and 5 kills, and Raelyn Johnson had 20 digs, 10 points and 9 kills.
Also for Chambersburg, Taylor Myers had 21 digs, 15 points and 3 aces; Isabella Fidler had 10 kills, 9 digs and 5 points; Marlee Wrights had 6 kills and 4 blocks and Rachael Meyers added 6 kills.
Culler said, “It’s been a long week — we’ve had three five-set matches (in four days).”
Cumberland Valley 8, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans fell to 2-4 (1-3 MPC) with a loss to unbeaten CV on Thursday.
Carlisle 5, Chambersburg 0: The Herd picked up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Thursday, not allowing the Trojans to win more than two games in any of the sets. Chambersburg is 1-7 (0-2 MPC).
