MARTINSBURG, W. Va. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers fought their way to a hard-earned 3-1 victory over Faith Christian Friday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball match.
The Blazers (4-2, 4-1 MDCC) took a 2-0 lead after the first two sets, but the victories did not come easily. They won the first game 25-22 and the second 25-23. Faith battled back for a 25-14 win in game three, but the Blazers secured the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth game.
“We had to fight hard tonight,” CVCS coach Carole Rosenberry said. “Our passing was a little off, but our hitters were able to turn the match into a win. Emilee Beam led with 10 kills, with Regan Bard and Niki Schussler each adding five. Sarah Vandersleen was a huge help at the net with three stuff blocks. Regan Bard added two of her own, and Kendra Bard and Olivia Russell each contributed one.”
Leading the Blazers on the stat sheet were Regan Bard with 17 assists, two blocked and three digs in addition to her five kills, Kerri Potteiger with 10 digs, Emilee Beam with nine digs and five aces along with her 10 kills, and Ryleigh Timmons with 24 digs.
Faith won the JV game 2-1.
