JB volleyball picks up first win of season

Behind a big second game rally the James Buchanan Lady Rocket volleyball team picked up its first win of the season.

The Lady Rockets defeated Boiling Springs 3-0 Thursday in a Mid Penn Colonial Division match.

JB (1-1) won by game scores of 25-15, 25-23 and 25-17. The Lady Rockets win was highlighted by coming back from a 20-13 deficit in the second game.

“This was a nice way to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss to Trinity,” JB coach Erica Piper said. “We worked hard at practice on passing and I thought the girls did much better with that tonight. Our passing allowed us to run our offense and get some good swings. The girls showed some guts pulling out that second set. I was proud of them for pulling together as a team and getting our first win.”

Rylynn Welsh led JB with 10 digs and 9 kills. Lydia Jones added 12 service points and 7 kills. Other stat leaders were Campbelle Dayley (10 digs), Carly Sollenberger (22 assists) and McKenzie Stoner (8 points).

In Tuesday’s season opener the Lady Rockets lost 3-0 to Trinity (25-16, 25-14, 25-12). Stat leaders were Welsh (3 kills), Dayley (11 digs, 9 points) and Sollenberger (18 assists).

JB next plays Saturday at the McConnellsburg Tournament.
