Shippensburg looking to build off fast start

After getting off to a running start in its season opener last week, the Shippensburg football team is focused on one thing.

Improvement.

Ship will make its home opener on Friday against West York, which started its season with a loss to Central York.

The Greyhounds (1-0) started fast with a 35-0 halftime lead over Dover before finishing off a 41-7 victory. Jacob Loy and Max Kalb both ran for over 100 yards and totaled three touchdowns, and the defense also had a score. Quarterback Zack Manning completed a pair of passes, both touchdowns to Isaiah Houser.

On the flip side, the Bulldogs lost 60-0. West York has a new head coach and a new offensive system, but it does return Corey Wise, who made some big plays against the Hounds last year. He finished with 190 yards and two touchdowns.

Said Foust, “Their quarterback is talented, and they do have some athletes. They are certainly in a transition period with a new coach and system, but we have to stay focused.

“There are definitely things we need to work on. We still have things to figure out in the passing game, and there are just little things across the board that we have to refine.”

Offensively, the Hounds dominated the line of scrimmage last week and will look to do the same again. On defense, Ship will continue to look to limit big plays and control the game.

“We just need to keep focused”, Foust said. “We’ve talked all week about working on us, and we just need to continue to play good football and build. If we play our game, we should have a good night.”
