Waynesboro ends winning streak: Waynesboro’s golf team produced a solid effort up and down the lineup and earned the victory Wednesday in a Mid Penn Colonial match at Greencastle Golf Club.
The win snapped Chambersburg’s consecutive win streak at 300 matches over its Colonial foes over the last nine-plus years.
“Waynesboro did a nice job, so congratulations to them,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said. “They posted some pretty good scores and the best we could do was the mid-80s. This should take the pressure off our kids’ backs trying to keep it going.”
The Indians won comfortably, with 323 strokes to Chambersburg’s 349. And Boro’s second-best score, a 77 by No. 6 player Ella Lowry, did not even count in the team score.
Devin Smith won his second-straight medalist honor, carding a 74 for Waynesboro (11-1). Teammates Evan Stein (80, tied for 3rd) and Brady Cauffman (82, tied for 5th) were also in the top five.
For the Trojans (11-1), Owen Reichelderfer was 8th with an 86, Teegan Humelsine and Jacob Carlin tied for 9th with 87s, Elijah Snyder shot 89 and Heather Sanbower 93.
Yost said, “We’ll try to get after it again Monday. It’s going to be fun when it’s competitive and you know you’ll have to perform well to get the outcome you want.”
James Buchanan placed third in the team standings with 396, followed by Greencastle-Antrim in fourth (398) and Shippensburg in seventh (430).
The Rockets’ Caleb Reath posted an 80 to tie for third. G-A’s best score was Sean Toomey’s 91, while J.T. Thomas had 96 for Ship.
Wednesday’s match with Lower Dauphin was postponed, with date to be determined.
