Faced with another must win, Greencastle came from behind with a two run bottom of the sixth to stay alive and knock Carlisle out of the District 14 DE Tournament with a dramatic 6-5 win at South Middleton.
Ben Horst grounded to short to tie the game at 5-5 as Spencer Doyle scored from third base and Carter McCauley advanced to third and JD Flynn came to the plate, McCauley then surprised everyone in the ballpark as he took off for home and easily scored to give Greencastle the victory.
Carlisle jumped on Greencastle for three runs in the top of the first on an RBI single by Aidan Saville and a two run single from Bradley Barrows.
Greencastle quickly came back in the bottom of the first on a two run homer by JD Flynn, his fifth of the tournament to cut the deficit to 3-2.
Carlisle got the two runs right back in the top of the second. on an RBI single by by Spencer Griffie and an RBI double from Saville to lead 5-2. Carlisle did not have another base runner until a two out walk in the sixth. Ben Horst retired the next 12 Carlisle hitters in order. Trey Dougherty came on to get a strikeout for the final out of the sixth.
Greencastle had to play catch up all day and cut the Carlisle lead to 5-4 in the bottom of the fourth. Spencer Doyle and Bregon Patterson had pinch hit singles. Carter McCauley reached on an error, scoring Doyle to cut it to 5-3. Greencastle made it 5-4 as JD Flynn had an RBI ground out.
Greencastle will now play Northeastern Monday night at South Middleton at 6:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting.
For the fourth consecutive game Greencastle is in a must win situation with undefeated Northeastern. If Greencastle wins on Monday the same two teams will play for the District 14 Championship Tuesday and a berth in the Section 7 Tournament which begins Saturday July 13.
Aidan Saville of Carlisle was the only player in the game with multiple hits, Saville had a single and double.
10U: Greencastle lost 14-2 to Newville and will play an elimination game with Dillsburg Monday night at Newville at 6:00 p.m.
