Greencastle 12U wins 9-0, eliminates Shippensburg

Greencastle facing another must win game responded with another outstanding pitching performance, and a big offensive day with a 9-0 win over Shippensburg at South Middleton Saturday. Greencastle will play Carlisle at South Middleton in another elimination game Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.The game can be heard at Mid Penn Broadcasting.

Three Greencastle pitchers combined  to limit Shippensburg to just two hits on the day while striking out nine.Carter McCauley went the first four innings striking out seven and allowing just two hits. Trey Dougherty set Shippensburg down in order in the fifth inning, and JD Flynn had a 1-2-3 sixth inning.

McCauley has three wins in the tournament and has not allowed a run in 13 innings, allowing six hits and has struck out 21 batters.

Greencastle got a run  in the bottom of the second when Preston Fox singled , Zach Paris doubled and Fox scored on an RBI ground out by Austin Nelson.

Greencastle added four more runs in the bottom of the third on a two run double by JD Flynn and a two run homer by Avery Horst to take a 5-0 lead.

Greencastle increased their lead to 8-0 in the bottom of the fourth on a two run triple by Avery Horst, and Horst scored on a passed ball.

Greencastle made it 9-0 in the bottom of the fifth on an Austin Nelson triple and a passed ball.

JD Flynn, Avery Horst, Bo Brookens and Zach Paris had two hits apiece for Greencastle. Avery Horst had four RBI and  JD Flynn two.

Ayden Estep and Athen Miller each had a hit for Shippensburg.

Greencastle, Carlisle and Northeastern remain alive in the six team tournament. Northeastern is the only unbeaten team. Greencastle is now 5-2.

11U: Greencastle 11U was eliminated with an 11-1 loss Saturday morning to South Middleton. With the win South Middleton is District 14 Champions and will advance to the Section 7 Tournament.

10U: will play at Newville Sunday at 2:00 p.m. against Newville. Greencastle and Newville are the only undefeated teams remaining in the double elimination tournament.
