Greencastle 12U stays alive with 4-1 win at SYC, 10U defeats Dillsburg 11-1

    Ben Horst threw a complete game four hitter, striking out six, did not allow a walk, threw 66 pitches, 58 for strikes.

Greencastle got another strong pitching performance backed by a stellar defensive effort and enough offense to stay alive in the District 14 Double Elimination Tournament defeating Southern York County 4-1 Wednesday night at New Freedom. Ben Horst needed only 66 pitches, 58 of which were strikes for a complete game four hitter, striking out six, and did not issue a walk or an earned run. SYC did not get a runner past second base until the sixth inning.

Greencastle jumped out to a 1-0 in lead in the bottom of the first on four consecutive singles. Ben Horst, JD Flynn and Avery Horst all singled to load the bases. Preston Fox then drove Ben Horst home with an RBI single.

The game remained 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Austin Nelson lead off with a single, Carter McCauley drew a walk and JD Flynn stroked a two run double driving in Nelson and McCauley to stretch the Greencastle lead to 3-0.

Greencastle added a run in the bottom of the fifth on a lead off home run by Avery Horst, SYC scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth.

Carter McCauley, JD Flynn and Avery Horst paced the Greencastle attack with two hits apiece.

Greeencastle will play Shippensburg who had a walk of 6-5 win over Dillsburg, at Dillsburg Friday night at 8:00 p.m. in an elimination game. Dillsburg and SYC were eliminated from the six team tournament. Along with Greencastle and Shippensburg, Northeastern and Carlisle remain.


10U: Greencatle scored in every inning and defeated Dillsburg 11-1 at Dillsburg Wednesday night.Chase Diller went the distance in a game shortened to five innings for the 10 run rule allowing one run on five hits and six strikeouts and one walk. Cam Rakaczewski, Landon Myers and Diller each had two hits for Greencastle, Greencastle will play Newville Saturday night at Dillsburg at 6:00 p.m.

12U Softball: Greencastle lost to Avon Grove 12-0 and are eliminated from the Section 7 tournament. Avon Grove swept the first two games in the best of three series.
