Carlisle edges Greencastle 12U 2-1, Grencastle 10U wins, 12U Softball falls

It was an old fashioned pitchers duel, Greencastle and Carlisle had five hits combined,  four pitchers combined for 28 strikeouts and Carlisle came away with a 2-1 victory at Ryder Field in Dillsburg Tuesday.

Aidan Sallie pitched the first four innings limiting Greencastle to just one run on two hits, striking out nine and did not issue a walk, Spencer Griffie pitched the final two innings, allowing just one hit, striking out five and walking one.

Carlisle had only two hits in the game, one from Sallie and one from Griffie and they both produced runs. Griffie’s solo home run in the bottom of the second gave Carlisle a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, and with the score tied 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth Sallie had an RBI single.

Avery Horst  and Trey Dougherty were outstanding for Greencastle on the mound. Horst pitched the first four innings allowing two runs, two hits, struck out 11 and issued an intentional walk. Trey Dougherty struck out the side in the bottom of the fifth.

Greencastle scored their only run in the second when Carter McCauley hit a two out double, stole third and scored on a passed ball.

Greencastle threatened in the top of the sixth inning, Carter McCauley had a one out single, and was forced at second base, JD Flynn was issued a two out intentional walk but Carlisle was able to get out of the jam.

Carter McCauley had had two hits, the only other hit for Greencastle was a double by Avery Horst in the second inning.

Greencastle is in a must win situation and will play an elimination game at Southern York County Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. The loser is eliminated from the six team tournament. The game can be heard on Mid Penn Broadcasting. Southern York County fell to Shippensburg 9-4 on Monday.

In other 12U action Tuesday Shippensburg fell to Northeastern 3-2, in a  game shortened to 5 innings by rain. Shippensburg will play Dillsburg in an elimination game Wednesday at Dillsburg at 8:00 p.m.

10U: Greencastle opened double elimination play with a 10-0 win over Dallastown at Dillsburg Krall Field. Greencastle scored in every inning and Cam Rakaczewski pitched a one hitter over five innings for Greencastle.

12U: Softball: Greencastle opened Section 7 play  falling 4-1 to Avon Grove at Zeis Field in Greencastle. Game 2 of the best of 3 will be played Wednesday at Avon Grove.
