Carter McCauley threw a one hitter and Greencastle won its second straight game in District 14 Pool Play defeating South Middleton 11-0 Monday night at Mount Holly Springs in a game that ended after five innings with the 10 run rule. McCauley retired the last 12 batters he faced, allowing just a lead off single to Ryan Carroll in the second inning. That would be the last base runner of the game for South Middleton. McCauley had nine strikeouts and issued two first inning walks.
Greencastle got all the runs they needed in the first inning on a two run infield single from Zach Paris. Greencastle then broke the game open with a seven run fourth inning.
Bo Brookens pinch hit RBI single put Greencastle up 3-0, JD Flynn doubled to center field for 2 RBI to expand the lead to 5-0, Spencer Doyle stole home to make it 6-0, Ben Horst RBI single stretched the lead to 7-0, Trey Daugherty had an RBI ground out to make it 8-0, Preston Fox capped the inning with an RBI single to make the lead 9-0.
Greencastle added two more in the top of the fifth on an error and RBI single by Ben Horst.
Ben Horst, JD Flynn and Carter McCauley had 2 hits apiece for Greencastle.
Greencastle is 2-0 and the only unbeaten team in the West Pool, the victory ensures a spot in the District 14 double elimination tournament which begins July 1.
Greencastle will play Shippensburg Wednesday night at 6:00 p.m. at South Middleton Woodcrafters Field. The game will be broadcast on Mid Penn Broadcasting
