Forbes Road 8 Northern Bedford 7

Waterfall, Pa. – Forbes Road and Northern Bedford closed out their respective regular seasons, completing a game suspended by rain on April 23.  The game resumed with two outs in the top of the third and no score for either team.  After retiring the first hitter to complete the visitors’ half, Forbes Road immediately took the lead.  Grayson Hall and Kole Kendall laced singles to start the offense, and Levi Truax’s RBI groundout chased across the first run of the evening.  Forbes Road tacked on four additional runs in the fourth, stringing together five singles and executing on a double steal to lead 5-0.  From there all appeared to unravel.  The Panthers scored seven unanswered runs in the fifth and sixth to lead 7-5. Northern Bedford managed four hits, just two leaving the infield, but benefitted from three Cardinal miscues.  Down to their last breath, Forbes Road rallied as Logan Deshong reached base on a hit-by-pitch to lead off the home seventh.  Matt Clippinger reached on an infield single.  Caleb Hershey’s ground ball snuck through the legs of the Panther second baseman, closing the lead to 7-6.  Shane Schepis walked to load the bases, setting the stage for the finish.  Caleb Voegel laced the first pitch he saw up the middle for the walk-off victory.  The win wraps up the Cardinals’ season at 11-6, good enough for the second seed in District V- Class A. The first round of the playoffs will be Tuesday.  Official seedings will be confirmed on Sunday.
