McConnellsburg 5 Forbes Road 3
Waterfall, Pa. – McConnellsburg plated five runs in the first two innings, then, hung on to beat Forbes Road in Waterfall Wednesday. The Spartans scored three times in the first on three hits and two free passes, then added two in the second, behind a leadoff walk and two singles. Weston Brunner (3), Zander Sipes, and Kolby Brown collected RBIs for McConnellsburg. Forbes Road answered in the bottom of the third as Grayson Hall’s two-out double chased home Caleb Hershey. The Cardinals added a single run in the fourth, when Logan Deshong led off with a double, then scored in Ethan Wright’s RBI single. The Cardinals narrowed the gap with a single run in the sixth, when Kole Kendall sprinted home from second as the Spartans attempted to turn a 5-4-3 double play. Spartan hurler Colton Mellott squashed the Cardinals’ thoughts of a comeback with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. Mellott spun a complete game, surrendering seven hits, walking one, and striking out five on just 74 pitches. Caleb Hershey took the loss for Forbes Road, going the first 4 2/3 innings. Doogie Garlock (2-4) had a multi-hit game for the Spartans. Logan Deshong (2-3) and Ethan Wright (2-3) collected two hits for the Cardinals. Forbes Road (9-6, 6-6 ICC) hosts Northern Bedford on Monday to complete a game suspended due to weather. McConnellsburg (4-11, 4-10 ICC) visits Hyndman on Friday for a twinbill.
