Trojan boys stand out at Stanley Morgan Invitational

Tyeshawn Worrell

Chambersburg’s Tyeshawn Worrell broke the school record in the 100 with a time of 10.73.

CARLISLE — Chambersburg put together a fine effort Saturday evening at the 31st Stanley Morgan Invitational track & field meet at Carlisle.

The Trojan boys earned three first places, four seconds and three thirds to place second behind the host Thundering Herd in the team race. Chambersburg’s girls had four top-three finishes and took fourth in the team standings.

Trojan boys coach Bob Walker said, “This was one of our better invitational meets in recent years. We had lots of career bests and set two school records.”

Tyeshawn Worrell had a hand in both school records. He ran a blazing time of 10.73 to finish just behind Harrisburg’s Kamere Day (10.69) in the 100 dash.

He also anchored Chambersburg’s 4 x 100 relay team that won the race in 42.40. The team included Jayden Jones, Karter Jones and Donovan Moses.

Brock Harmon took first in the shot put (career-best 53-9) and was second in the discus (151-5), while Tyler Luther continued his improvement in the pole vault, posting a career-best 13-9 to take a gold medal.

“Tyeshawn, Tyler and Brock had a fantastic night,” Walker said. “We’re looking forward to our last dual meet Tuesday (vs. CD East) and hosting the Mid Penn championships on Saturday.”

Trentin Overcash took second in the 3200 race in 9:50.31 (career best) and was third in the 1600 in 4:24.66 (career best).

Other top-three performances included Worrell in the long jump (3rd, 21-5.5), Aaron Maynard in the high jump (3rd, 5-5) and the 4 x 400 relay team of Maynard, Karter Jones, Diontae Barbour and Worrell (4th, 3:25.61). Worrell ran a career-best 50.0 in the final leg.

The Trojan girls collected a pair of seconds — Bre’ya Clopper ran a time of 45.86 to take second in the 300 hurdles, while the 4 x 100 relay team of Tayah Warren, Shanelle Burrowes, Jacelyn Jones and Aniyah Jones was the runner-up in a time of 49.87.

Taking thirds were Burrowes in the 200 in 26.62 and Sydnie Gilbert in the 100 hurdles in 15.94.

“We had a very nice meet, with many season-best performances,” Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said. “The relays were outstanding and I was very impressed with Keira Whitehead’s 1600 (6th in 5:15.12) and Bre’ya Clopper’s 300 hurdles.”

The only other Franklin County athlete that placed in the top three was Waynesboro’s E.J. Miller, third in the boys javelin with a throw of 156-4.
