JB softball pulls out 2 close wins

The James Buchanan Lady Rocket softball team picked up a pair of close Mid Penn Colonial Division wins Wednesday and Thursday.

James Buchanan 5, Boiling Springs 3: The Lady Rockets scored 3 runs in the first inning and held off Boiling Springs on Wednesday.

Kirstyn Atheron smacked a 2-run triple and scored on a wild pitch in the first for JB (10-2, 6-1 MPC). In the second inning, Grace Amsley singled and later scored on a single by Maddie Bailey to make it 4-0 and in the fifth, Jenna Mongold doubled and 2 wild pitches later made the score 5-3.

Lizzie Pittman pitched the first four innings (3 runs, 4 hits, 4 strikeouts) to earn the win and Mongold was 3 shutout, hitless innings to earn the save.

James Buchanan 3, Waynesboro 0: A 3-run fifth inning by JB were the only runs scored and Mongold was dominant on the mound.

With one out in the fifth, Paige Doyle singled and after Grace Amsley was hit by a pitch, Bailey delivered an RBI double. Mongold then helped her own cause with an RBI triple and then scored on an overthrow at third.

Mongold pitched a complete-game 3-hitter with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. She allowed only 1 Waynesboro runner to reach second base.

Next games: The Lady Rockets play at Red Land on Friday and then play in the Central York tournament Saturday.
