Pittman leads JB past Shippensburg

Lizzie Pittman was in top pitching form Tuesday.

Pittman threw 6 no-hit innings to lead the James Buchanan Lady Rockets past Shippensburg 2-0 in a Mid Penn Colonial Division softball game.

The senior right-hander held the Lady Hounds without hit until giving up 2 singles in the top of the seventh. Pittman also finished with 8 strikeouts.

“Lizzie pitched well,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “She had all her pitches working. She hit her spots and her fastball had some speed today. Ship had runners at second and third there in the seventh, but Lizzie induced a popup back to her to finish the game.”

Except for being on the losing end Emily Wenner also pitched a fine game for Ship. She scattered 3 hits, gave up no earned runs and struck out 7.

JB (7-2, 4-1 MPC) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second when Maria Burkett singled, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an error.

Jenna Mongold manufactured the second run for the Lady Rockets in the bottom of the third when she doubled, stole third and scored on an over throw at third.

“We were fortunate to score a few runs,” Troy Pittman said. “It was a good league victory for us. Ship has been tough on us the last few years.”
