The James Buchanan Lady Rocket softball team got its season off to a good start Thursday.
JB put up 3 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back and cruised to a 12-0 six-inning Mid Penn Colonial Division victory over Boiling Springs.
Adding to that first inning, the Lady Rockets put up 1 run in the third, 4 in the fourth and 4 more in the sixth.
Jenna Mongold had a big offensive game for JB going 4-for-4, including a double and a 3-run homer. Maria Burkett added 2 hits while Kirstyn Atherton hit a triple, Maddie Bailey doubled and Alyssa Blair scored 3 runs.
Winning pitcher Lizzie Pittman gave up one hit and struck out 9.
“It was a good first game for us,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “Lizzie pitched well and Jenna had a big offensive game. This was a good team win.”
