LEWISBURG — On the first day of the PIAA Swimming Championships, Shippensburg’s girls swam in three events in Class 2A.
The Lady Hounds’ 200 freestyle relay team had the best finish, winning the consolation race to place ninth. That left Ship with 18 points and in 21st place in the team standings.
The relay team of Julia Strine, Teddi Powell, Madison Osanitch and Makenna Morris turned in a time of 1:41.04 in the morning prelims, which was the 11th best time.
That put them in the consolation race and the Hounds never trailed. Strine led off with a split of 24.54 to take the lead, followed by Powell (25.90), Osanitch (25.04) and Morris (24.59).
The time of 1:40.07 was nearly a full second faster than in the morning.
In the 200 freestyle, Osanitch swam a time of 1:59.35 to finish in 22nd place, while Morris was 18th in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.27.
Powell is a senior, Osanitch and Morris juniors and Strine is a sophomore.
