Hounds Lose at the Buzzer, 64-62

Larry Locker hit a 10 foot, turnaround jumper as time expired to lead the Elizabethtown Bears to a come-from-behind 64-62 victory over the Shippensburg Greyhounds Monday night in the first round of the district 3 playoffs.

Shippensburg, which led by as many as 10 points in the second quarter, had tied the game at 62 on Jacob Freys’ three-pointer with just under a minute to play.  But, after two misses at the foul line by Anthony Smith, Elizabethtown called time out with 36.7 seconds remaining before running the clock down and getting the ball to Locker for the final shot.

The Bear’s led 10-7 in the first quarter before Shippensburg scored the final five points of the quarter to lead 12-10.  The Greyhounds stretched the lead to ten, 22-12 but Elizabethtown fought back to trail by five at the half, 35-30.

Elizabethtown was led in scoring by senior Locker who finished with 29 points.  He was joined in double figures by Elijah Eberly and Amos Kollie with 12 each.

For the Greyhounds, Jayden Statum poured in 16 points followed by Collin Taylor with 12 and Adam Houser with 10.

Elizabethtown was 15-18 at the foul line while the Greyhounds finished 4-7.

Shippensburg, 15-8, now moves into the consolation bracket and faces a must win Thursday night versus Cocalico at home at 7pm. The game can be heard on Mid Penn Broadcasting Elizabethtown will face #1 seed Lower Dauphin.
