Blazers host playoff games Tuesday

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers will host a pair of Mason-Dixon Christian Conference basketball playoff games on Tuesday.

The Blazer girls will play New Life Christian at 4:30, followed by the Blazer boys vs. Calvary Christian at 6 p.m. Both CVCS teams enter the tournament as No. 3 seeds.

The girls, who enter the tournament with a 15-8 record (10-4 MDCC), defeated New Life twice within a five-day span earlier this month. In the last meeting, they trailed by a point before shutting out the Rams in the third period en route to a 37-27 victory.

Junior Kyleigh Teal and freshman Amber Yanosik lead the Blazers in scoring, with freshman Laurel Reitz directing things at point guard. Junior Jalen Moats and freshman Keagan Yarboro round out the starting lineup.

The Blazer boys, who are 12-12 after their big win at McConnellsburg Friday night, lost at Calvary 49-39 last Thursday to finish with an 8-6 league record. They defeated Calvary at home 38-37 in early January.

Sophomores Blaine Minnier and Caleb Eckert lead the Blazers. Minnier leads the team in scoring with a 16.6 average, and Eckert has had a double-double in points and rebounds in all but a few games this year. Seniors Nathan Statler and Triston Horn and junior defensive specialist Ken Hott round out the Blazer starting five.

The winners of Tuesday’s games will advance to the MDCC Final Four Friday and Saturday in Martinsburg, W. Va.
