Shippensburg Outlasts Dallastown, 72-67

By Matt Kellam

The Shippensburg Greyhounds (13-7) nearly blew a 12 point fourth quarter lead before hitting their foul shots down the stretch to hold off the Dallastown Wildcats (10-10) 72-67 Monday night in a turnover filled, non-conference game at Shippensburg.

The Greyhounds spurted to an early 13-3 lead, but turnovers allowed Dallastown to pull back to within one at 16-15 at the end of the first quarter. Jacob Frey hit three-3 pointers as Shippensburg was able to stretch the lead back to nine at the half, 35-26.

The lead stayed between 9 and 12 points in the third quarter and into the fourth before Dallastowns’ quickness produced more turnovers and cut the lead to 1 with 39.3 seconds to go. Anthony Smith had a huge block and 2 foul shots from Adam Houser and 4 from Collin Taylor sealed the victory for the Greyhounds.

Taylor had a big game for the Greyhounds with 24 points, including 12-14 from the foul line, to go with 17 rebounds. Anthony Smith only scored five points but also had a big game on the boards with 12 rebounds. Kyle Richardson led the Wildcats with 13 points.

The Greyhounds shot 77% from the foul line, 27-35, while Dallastown was only 9-23.

Shippensburg has two games remaining in the regular season, Thursday night at East Pennsboro and Friday night at home versus Red Land. Friday’s game is senior night and can be seen on www.midpennbroadcasting.com
