The Cumberland Valley Eagles came into Saturday’s matchup with the Shippensburg Greyhounds with a 14-3 record, tied for the Mid Penn Commonwealth Division lead, and ranked fourth in the district in 6A standings. None of that mattered as the Greyhounds came up with their best game of the season to hand the Eagles a 66-58 loss Saturday night at Shippensburg High School.

Shippensburg got off to a 7-0 start and held the Eagles scoreless for the first 2:15 of the game. The Greyhounds held a 22-10 lead at the end of the first quarter. Both teams’ defense ruled in the 2nd quarter but the Greyhounds went to the locker room with a 33-20 halftime advantage.

Shippensburg led by as many as 15 points until Dylan Buzalka hit three-3 point shots in a short period at the end of the third and beginning of the 4th to cut the lead to six.

But the Greyhounds responded and led by Jayden Statum, who scored 13 points from the foul line, expanded the lead back to 12 and quelled the threat.
Statum led all scorers with 21. Shippensburg’s leading scorer, Collin Taylor, was saddled with two quick fouls in the first quarter and ended up with six points for the game. However, he did pull down 10 rebounds.

Ty Banach led the Eagle attack with 17 points followed by Dylan Buzulka with 16.
Shippensburg, 11-6, returns to action Tuesday night when they host James Buchanan in a Mid Penn Colonial conference game. That game will be carried on http://www.midpennbroadcasting.com with air time at 7:15.
