Trojan boys, Ship girls cruise to Bulldog Bash swim titles

NEWVILLE — The Chambersburg boys swim team and the Shippensburg girls were clearly the class of the field Thursday at the 14th Bulldog Bash at Big Spring.

The Trojans won the boys team title by 46 points over Bishop McDevitt, while the Lady Hounds were a whopping 134 points better than second-place Dover.

Chambersburg won two relays and C.J. Pong and Jacob Greenwood each won a pair of races. Pong took the butterfly (52.67) and backstroke (54.21), while Greenwood won the 200 and 500 (4:47.80) freestyle races. In the 200, his time of 1:46.13 set a meet and pool record.

The Trojan 200 medley relay team of Avery Barley, Michael Johnson, Pong and Greenwood clocked in at 1:40.49, which was also a pool and meet record. The 200 free relay team of Barley, Aiden McMillen, Pong and Greenwood won in 1:33.12

Also for Chambersburg, McMillen was second in the 200 IM, Barley was second in the backstroke, Colby Estep was second in the 500 free and Johnson was the runner-up in the breaststroke.

Shippensburg’s girls racked up relay wins the medley and 200 free, and took first in three individual events.

The three winners were Julia Strine in the 200 IM (2:16.68) and the breaststroke (1:07.10), and Madison Osanitch in the 200 free (2:00.84).

Ship’s winning team in the medley relay was Osanitch, Strine, Makenna Morris and Teddi Powell and their time of 1:53.54 was a meet and pool record. The 200 free relay was won in 1:44.30 by Strine, Osanitch, Powell and Morris).

The other area win came in the backstroke, by Waynesboro’s Lauren Wetzel in 1:01.55.

For the Chambersburg girls, who finished only nine points out of second place, Emily Stroble had the best finish, a second in the 500 free in 5:53.68.

Also for the Trojans, Maddie Kinton was third in the 50 free and Liv Terrazas was third in the backstroke.
