G-A’s Taryn Parks earns silver medal at PIAA X-C race

HERSHEY — Greencastle-Antrim junior Taryn Parks collected a high medal for the third consecutive year at the PIAA Cross Country championships.

On Saturday at the Hershey Parkview course, Parks took second place behind Northern York’s Marlee Starliper in the Girls Class 2A race. In the last three years, Parks has picked up a gold, bronze and silver medal at states.

Parks led Starliper by 3 seconds at the one mile mark. But by two miles, Starliper had taken a lead of 30 seconds. The Polar Bear junior won with a time of 17:53. Parks clocked in at 18:49 and third-place finisher Gianna Labbiento of Sharon had a time of 19:05.

Greencastle freshman Isabella Weaver posted a time of 21:32 to place 63rd.

In Class 2A boys, another Blue Devil freshman, Weber Long, had a fine state race debut, placing 29th with a time of 17:41.

The fourth Franklin County runner to compete Saturday was Chambersburg senior Trent Overcash. In the boys 3A race, Overcash was timed in 17:23 to place 65th.
