CHAMBERSBURG — No. 11 seed Dallastown came to Trojan Stadium on Tuesday evening and went home with a victory over No. 6 seed Chambersburg in a District 3 Class 4A first-round boys soccer playoff game.
“We were outworked most of the game and Dallastown deserved to win,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “We picked a bad time to play a bad game. We couldn’t match their intensity level or their physical play.”
Chambersburg, trailing 1-0 thanks to a first-half goal by Matteo Conigliaro, finally scored the tying goal with 7:34 left in the game when Omario Duncan fed Kenan Korkutovic and he found the back of the net.

However, the Wildcats came right back and scored the game-winner just 38 seconds later. The Trojans gave up a corner kick and on the ensuing play, Joe Thomas kicked in the winning goal.
Grove said, “We always defend corner kicks with a guy about six yards out on the near post and for some reason, that guy wasn’t there. They passed the ball on the ground to that spot and scored. It was a big mental error.”
Chambersburg, which finished 11-5-2, out-shot Dallastown (11-6-1), which will play No. 3 seed Hempfield (13-4) in Saturday’s quarterfinals, 11-5, and had one more corner kick, 5-4.
Grove said, “We were missing four players, including Luke Myers (a three-year starter on defense), and that hurt our depth. Their first goal was scored on Luke’s side.
“It’s frustrating, but that’s the game we play. They had only two or three chances and got two goals; we had four or five and only scored once. But, really, Dallastown just seemed to want the game more.”
