The Forbes Road Field Hockey team (15-1-1) pulled off a big win in their final home game of the season against the Rockets from Southern Huntingdon. A large crowd was in attendance due to it being the first ever FR Field Hockey Alumni Night and the annually sponsored by the Fulton County Medical Center’s Pink Out game in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Cardinals took charge of play from the opening whistle earning shot attempts from the onset. Madison Hays started the scoring frenzy around the 10 minute mark on an assist from Mara Broadwater. Emma Gelvin, the next Cardinal scorer, netted her goal on a series of stick to stick passes sent into her by teammates Broadwater and Harlie Strait.  Madison Hays would strike again for her second goal a little over a minute later tapping the ball in at left post on a cross pass from Strait.  Two minutes later, Quincy McMath found herself the next recipient of a centered ball from Strait adding her to the list of Cardinal goal winners. With just seven seconds left on the clock, Mara Broadwater rounded out the first half goals on a penalty corner play set up by the duo of Hailey Dodson and Shelby Harnish. Senior Rocket goalie Brittany McMullen tallied 14 saves in the first 30 minutes of play, one of which was a blocked penalty stroke attempt.

After the break, the Cardinals continued their attack.  Mara Broadwater would find success, once again, on a penalty corner play, this time on a pass from halfback, Brianna Waters.  Waters, just two short minutes later, set up Quincy McMath for her second goal of the game.  Hailey Dodson and Payton Kendall would tally the next two scores for the Cardinals both on balls sent by Broadwater.  Freshman, Kaelonni Lashinksy, finalized the scoring for the match earning her first varsity goal on a deflected ball off the goal pads as a result of corner play.

Upon the completion of the game, a short ceremony was held detailing the rich history of FR Field Hockey since its inception in 1973.  Long time Coach Carol Cline, hospitalized since late July, was honored during the time of recognition.  Cline, in her 42 years of coaching, coached and mentored hundreds of players earning 19 District 6 Championships.  A group photo was taken representing the past, present, and future of Forbes Road Field Hockey at the conclusion of the event.

The Cardinals play on the road, Tuesday, October 23, in a make up game with the Huntingdon Bearcats at 4 pm.
