Waterfall, Pa. – The Forbes Road Cardinal Field Hockey team (14-1-1) was visited Friday afternoon by the Midd-West Mustangs of Snyder County.  The cooler Fall weather was just perfect for the 4 pm match up.  The Cardinals, who experienced a bit of a hiccup in play when they tied Mercersburg Academy earlier in the week, were quick to display from the get-go that they were back in sync and ready to unleash.

Four of the Cardinal goals came within the first 15 minutes of the game and from four different players.  Mara Broadwater was the first to find the cage on a penalty corner pass from Harlie Strait.  Less than 3 minutes later, Madison Hays shoved the ball past the Mustang’s goalie on an assist from Broadwater.  The Cardinal’s corner inserter, Hailey Dodson, set up the next Cardinal goal.  The perfectly executed 3-pass corner play, that drew the Mustang goalie out, went from Dodson, to Shelby Harnish to Harlie Strait who tapped it right into the wide open cage. Quincy McMath rounded out the first half scoring for the Cardinal’s on an assist from Strait.  The Mustangs would find their own scoring success late in the half as they were able to capitalize on some long hard free hits to progress down the field and into the circle.  H. Brown scored a goal with 3:44 left in the half and then J. Blair added another quick one with just 29 seconds on the clock.

The Cardinals came out strong in the second half with Madison Hays tallying her second goal for the day three minutes in on a free hit pass sent to her by midfielder Emma Gelvin. The Cardinals charged away for the rest of the half setting up plays and utilizing their stick to stick passing to maneuver around the Mustang’s to their 5-2 win.  Midd-West had one shot attempt in the second half.
