Blazers sink Grace, 4-2

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers wrapped up their Mason-Dixon Christian Conference regular-season schedule by defeating Grace Academy 4-2 in boys soccer Thursday.

The Blazers (15-4, 11-1 MDCC) will earn a first-round bye for finishing first in the MDCC regular season. They will host the winner of the No. 4 vs. No. 5 seed, either Heritage or Grace, in the MDCC playoff semifinals next Thursday.

The Blazers scored a pair of goals in each half. Eli Black gave CVCS a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game on an assist from Kenneth Hott. Collin Nigh tied it for Grace, but Hott scored on an assist from Black to put the Blazers ahead for good with two minutes left in the first half.

Joel Vandersleen scored on an assist from Hott to make it 3-1, and Black scored on an assist from Vandersleen to pad the lead to 4-1 before Grace added a late goal.

“The boys played a good game,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “We moved and possessed the ball well. Their legs are still tired from (seven games in) the past two weeks. We should be recovered in time for our playoff game.”

The Blazers outshot Grace 30-16 and led 8-3 in corner kicks. Goaltender Jack Gabler made 14 saves.
