JB comes up short in shootout at Frederick (Md.)

If touchdowns, actually lots of touchdowns and a pile points, is what you like to see at a football game, well then Frederick (Md.) High School was the place to be Friday night.

A combined 16 touchdowns for a whopping 108 points were put up by the James Buchanan Rockets and the Cadets, with Frederick coming out on top 61-47.

James Buchanan (2-4) held the lead one time, 14-13 in the second quarter when Cormac Houpt busted loose for an 80-yard TD run, but Frederick (3-3) scored back-to-back TDs over the next 3 minutes to take the lead for good.

The closest the Rockets got to reclaiming the lead was with 4:27 left in the game when QB Sebastian Wise hooked up with Brady Bigler for a 43-yard TD strike. That score cut Frederick’s lead to 53-47, but the Rocket defense couldn’t hold and the Cadets scored again with 2:38 remaining to seal the victory.

Houpt unofficially finished the game with 179 yards and 3 TDs. Wise threw 3 TDs (2 to Bigler for  59 yards and 43 yards and one to Grant Ellis for 25 yards). Chandler White also returned a kick 80 yards for another Rocket TD.

The Rockets host Chavez-Parkside (from Washington D.C.) next Friday with a 6 p.m. scheduled kickoff.
