GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Cedar Cliff 1: The teams played four very competitive sets, but the Trojans prevailed Thursday night in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match.

Chambersburg (9-5, 6-4 MPC) won 26-24, fell 26-24, then won games of 25-22 and 25-22 to wrap up the win.

“It was back-and-forth the whole time,” Trojan assistant coach Bobby Culler said. “We played very aggressively and picked up a lot defensively.”

On defense, Ally Davis piled up 32 digs, Taylor Myers had 30 digs, Brooke Stevens had 16 and Ansley Runk added 11.

Up front, Ashley Adams had 16 kills, Davis had eight kills and Marlee Wrights had six kills, three aces and six blocks.

In addition, Runk had 23 assists and 11 service points, Robyn Stepler had 14 assists, Myers had 12 points and Stevens added eight.

GIRLS TENNIS
Chambersburg advances one team: The Mid Penn Class 3A tournament began at CD East on Thursday morning and Trojan teams picked up five wins and five losses for the day.

The No. 2 doubles team of Sarah Guare and Julianne Grove collected two wins — 6-2, 7-5 over Northern York and 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 over Palmyra — to advance to Friday’s semifinal match with No. 1 seed Central Dauphin.

Two singles players got through the first round before being eliminated. At No. 2, Madison Mellinger won 6-0, 6-1 over Rebecca Love of Red Land, but fell in the quarterfinals, 6-2, 6-2 to Olivia Gorak-Lacquerment of Carlisle.

At No. 3, Caroline Hance picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kyra Buchanan of Mechanicsburg, but was knocked out 6-1, 6-1 by Julie Bramley of Lower Dauphin.

The No. 1 doubles team of Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis took their first match 6-4, 6-4 over Northern, but were eliminated 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 by No. 1 seed Hershey.

At No. 1 singles, Hope Sprecher fell to Ellie Williams of Mechanicsburg. Sprecher won 6-2 in the first set, but Williams rallied to win 7-5, 6-3.

In the District 3 doubles competition, Sprecher and Mellinger were defeated 6-4, 6-4 by Mifflin County in the first round.
