Rocket football headed to Frederick, Md.

Winning “a” football game is nice. Having a win streak is even better.

The James Buchanan Rockets will try to put back-to-back wins together for the first time this season as they travel to Frederick (Md.) Friday night for a 7 p.m. kickoff.

JB (2-3) picked up its second overall win of the season last Friday, beating Clear Spring (Md.) 41-14.

Senior RB Cormac Houpt rushed for a season-high 243 yards and scored 3 TDs. QB Sebastian Wise connected on 6-of-11 passes for 148 yards and 3 TDs. Senior WR Owen Stoner led the team with 2 catches for 97 yards.

“It’s great to be back in the win column,” JB coach David Miller said. “We definitely had some of that energy carry over into practice this week.”

The Cadets come into the game with a 2-3 record after beating Smithsburg (Md.) 37-21 last Friday.

“In some places they have few advantages over us, but we have some over them also,” Miller said. “We need to hopefully find some other things and exploit them.”

Against Smithsburg, QB Kisaye Barnes passed for 301 yards and tied a 50-year-old school record with 5 TD passes. Barnes favorite target was Fontaine Weedon, who caught 6 passes for 145 yards and 3 TDs. Jammik Hill also caught 2 TD passes.

In last years game the Rockets jumped out to a 13-0 lead, but the Cadets scored the next 39 points. In that game Barnes threw for 160 yards and 2 TDs.

“Hopefully the players remember that game from last year and know this is one we can get,” Miller said. “Their quarterback throws the ball a lot and can be accurate, but the thing that scares me are his feet. We have to keep in the pocket because if we don’t he’ll make plays.”
