Blazers fall to Shalom in OT

Shalom Christian’s Aden Priest scored eight minutes into overtime as the Flames handed the Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers their first Mason-Dixon Christian Conference loss, 2-1, in boys soccer Tuesday evening.

After a foul just outside the box, Priest bounced his shot into the left corner of the net for the sudden-death victory. Priest also scored the first goal of the game early in the second half.

Just a few minutes after Priest’s first goal, Kenneth Hott tied the score on an assist from Eli Black. The Blazers (12-2, 8-1 MDCC) had multiple chances in the second half and overtime but could not find the net.

The Blazers held advantages of 25-22 in shots and 10-4 in corner kicks.

In a non-league game on Monday, CVCS defeated Carroll Christian 3-0 in Westminster, Md.

Ryan Winters and Joel Vandersleen scored in the first half, both goals assisted by Hott. Hott, assisted by Jimmy Hong, scored in the second half.

Jack Gabler made 17 saves in goal for the Blazers, who held an edge of 20-17 in shots. Carroll had more corner kicks, 4-2.

“Jack Gabler stepped up his game in goal,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “He made some really good stops. We have told Jack since the start of the year that by mid-season he would be taking over the starting role, and he has stepped up to the challenge.”
