Hershey 4, Chambersburg 1: A strong Hershey team defeated the Trojans in the first match of a doubleheader for Chambersburg on Monday.

The only win for Chambersburg came at No. 2 singles, when Madison Mellinger won by forfeit because the Hershey player was sick.

Chambersburg 4, Red Land 1: The Trojans lost at No. 1 singles, but won the other four matches for its first Mid Penn Commonwealth win of the season.

Mellinger won at No. 2, 6-3, 6-2 and Caroline Hance took a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 for Chambersburg (6-8, 1-4 MPC).

In doubles, Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1, while at No. 2, Sarah Guare and Junianne Grove won, 7-6, 6-4.

Trojan coach Josh Barwin said, “We responded really well after losing our first match of the day. I like how the team showed 100% effort throughout both matches — it really goes to show that these girls are mentally tough.”

Chambersburg has a makeup match Wednesday vs. Cumberland Valley and the Mid Penn Tournament begins Thursday.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
State College 3, Chambersburg 0: The Little Lions set a fast pace and the Trojans could not keep up in a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat on Monday.

“State College is a very good team,” Trojan assistant coach Bobby Culler said. “They run a very quick offense and we just could never got into a rhythm. We made it interesting in the second set, but struggled in the third.”

The Little Lions won the first game 25-16, edged the Trojans 27-25 in the second, then dominated in the third, 25-6.

For Chambersburg (8-5, 5-4 MPC), Ashley Adams had four kills, Marlee Wrights had seven service points (3 aces) and three blocks, Ally Davis had two blocks and eight blocks, Ansley Runk contributed six assists and seven digs, Robyn Stepler had four assists, Taylor Myers had 11 digs and four points and Kirsten Johnson had six points.

Northern York 6, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans (0-8-1) allowed three goals in each half against the Polar Bears.
