Chambersburg rdp 9/10: Volleyball blanks Patriots; boys soccer ties PIAA champion

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Red Land 0: The Trojans had a dominating first set (25-3), then won 25-23 and 25-15 to earn a Mid Penn Commonwealth win Monday evening over the Patriots.

The Trojans (4-1, 2-1 MPC) spread the statistics around. Marlee Wrights (8), Kirsten Johnson (5), Ally Davis (4) and Robyn Stepler (3) led in kills, while Ansley Runk, Brooke Stevens and Raelyn Johnson each had two.

Stepler had 14 service points (2 aces), Taylor Myers had 10 (3 aces), Raelyn Johnson had 9 (1 ace) and Stevens had five points (1 ace). Stepler had 14 assists and Runk added nine, while digs leaders were Myers (13) and Stevens (7).

Chambersburg assistant coach Bobby Culler said, “Tonight we took care of business. It’s a busy week and it was nice to get everybody some playing time.”

Chambersburg 0, Lower Dauphin 0: The Falcons, two-time defending PIAA Class 3A champions, were held to a scoreless draw in a non-league game at Trojan Stadium.

Trojan coach Corey Grove said, “I thought we did a pretty good job — we put ourselves in dangerous positions of the and defended very well, but we have to put the ball in the back of the net. The energy and fight were there; we just lacked the final product.”

Chambersburg is 2-1-1; LD is 2-0-1.

State College 4, Chambersburg 3: The Trojans dropped their first game of the season, a high-scoring Mid Penn Commonwealth affair, to the Little Lions.

State College scored less than a minute into the game, then Gabby Lecuona tied it up just before halftime. The Little Lions went ahead 3-1 before Lecuona made it 3-2, with an assist from Bianca Sommers.

Five minutes later, the Little Lions made it 4-2, then Brooke Huntsman scored off a Lecuona assist with less than two minutes remaining for the Trojans (3-1, 1-1 MPC). State College held a 20-5 advantage in shots.

“We came out a little flat today and couldn’t seem to get things moving the way we had been,” Chambersburg coach Ed Franchi said. “But I was happy the team kept fighting hard the whole game. I know the girls are looking forward to playing them again at home.”

Greencastle-Antrim 4, Chambersburg 1: The Trojans (0-2) were defeated in a non-league game by the Blue Devils on Monday. No other details were provided.
