DILLSBURG — Chambersburg’s girls tennis team fought through brutal heat to pick up its third victory of the young season Wednesday afternoon, posting a 5-0 non-league sweep against Northern York.

“The girls were mentally tough today,” Trojan coach Josh Barwin said. “Battling the opponent and the heat was not an easy task. I’m glad we were able to get the match in today, and it always feels good to get wins across the board.”

Hope Sprecher won a three-setter at No. 1 singles for Chambersburg (3-1), 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. Madison Mellinger won a close match at No. 2, 6-3, 6-4, while Caroline Hance earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 3.

Two more competitive matches followed in doubles. At No. 1, Alexis Parra and Cally Papoutsis prevailed 6-4, 6-4; then at No. 2, Sarah Guare and Julianne Grove won a tight tiebreaker in the first set to win 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Sprecher and Mellinger also won the district doubles match, 6-2.
