MERCERSBURG — A thunderstorm disrupted play at the Mid Penn Colonial Division golf tournament at Whitetail Golf Resort on Monday afternoon, but enough golf was played to make it an official result.

Chambersburg ended up taking first place with a score of 125, Waynesboro was third (145), Greencastle-Antrim fourth (149), James Buchanan seventh (154) and Shippensburg eighth (155).

“We had a storm come over the mountain and gave us a downpour,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said, “and after that there was standing water on the greens. Every kid had played way more than seven holes, but you have to have all of them play at least seven common holes, so we had to take some back out to get those holes in.”

Ben Smith of Waynesboro won the individual competition with a score of 26 for the seven holes, while Karsen Rush of Chambersburg was second (27).

“Karsen was 3-under with five holes to play, so he was going to have a good score,” Yost said.

Also in the top 15 for the Trojans (12-0) were Spencer Rajtik (31, tie 5th), Mary Kate Norcross (33, tie 11th), Grayson Hopple (34, tie 13) and Jacob Carlin (36, 14th).

“I was a little nervous, because anything can happen (in a shortened event),” Yost said, “and I didn’t know where we stood. I’m just glad we got it in.”

JB’s Caleb Reath placed third with 28, Shippensburg’s Adam Maring shot 31 to tie for fifth and Greencastle’s Amanda Steier had the lowest girls score with 31 (tie for 5th overall).

Trojans place sixth: In the Central Dauphin Invitational on Saturday, Chambersburg placed sixth as a team at Dauphin Highlands.

Unionville won the tournament with a team score of 287 and the Trojans had 317. Manheim Township (290) was the only District 3 team to finish ahead of Chambersburg.

Karsen Rush shot 1-over par 73 to place in a tie for seventh in the boys individual competition.

Also playing for the Trojans were Grayson Hopple (78), Spencer Rajtik (82), Jacob Carlin (84) and Mary Kate Norcross (88).
