That would be a quick and concise description of the Chambersburg golf team for the 2018 season.

The Trojans, who carry a 252-league match win streak into the season, and who qualified a pair of golfers to the PIAA Championships, return at least their top four players this fall and expect to extend that impressive streak even further.

Chambersburg opens its season Monday when Waynesboro Country Club hosts the first Mid Penn Colonial Division match at 2 p.m.

“We look for a successful year, to do well in our league matches, and to build so we can do well in the postseason,” Trojan coach Mark Yost said.

The top returners are seniors Karsen Rush and Mary Kate Norcross, both of whom reached the PIAA tournament last October.

Norcross was the Mid Penn champion, tied for sixth in District 3, placed fourth at the PIAA Eastern Regional and tied for 11th at states. For the season, her average score was 80.0.

Rush averaged 74.7 strokes per round, tied for second in the Mid Penn, tied for ninth in District 3, tied for seventh at regionals and finished in a tie for 16th at the PIAA event.

Two other senior starters are back — Grayson Hopple and Spencer Rajtik, who averaged 78.9 and 85.0, respectively. Hopple made it to the second day of districts.

The fifth starter from last year, senior Spencer Bodner (93.5 avg.), may decide not to play this season. If he doesn’t, sophomores Jacob Carlin, Owen Reichelderfer, Josh Bump and Cooper Miller, or freshmen Dru Bowling and Ryan Corwell will compete for the fifth spot.

Yost said, “We have some kids who have really gotten better since last year, so I think we should be pretty strong.”

Norcross is joined by three other girls on the team — junior Sarah Piper, sophomore Megan Brandt and freshman Heather Sanbower.

“Four girls is the most we’ve had on the team,” Yost said. “Depending on how the other three score in the regular season, we may have to enter a girls team for the postseason, which would mean Mary Kate could not score for the boys team. We’ll see how that plays out.”

MPC Colonial teams will have their work cut out for them to end the Trojans’ long streak, which began in 2010 after a loss to Gettysburg at Mountain View.
