Shippensburg Legion

Shippensburg Post 223 split two games in the American Legion Region 4 tournament but fell victims to Mother Nature and the change in format in the tournament.

Shippensburg dropped an 8-1 decision to Ephrata in their opener but rallied behind Clayton Stine and his pitching to grab a 3-0 victory over Region 4 host Hanover on Sunday.

Stine threw six innings of shut out ball, allowing five walks and six hits but the Shippensburg defense turned three double plays to help Stine out.

Nick Weltz and Stine drove in runs with singles and Trevor O’Donnell drove in a run with aground out in the fifth.

Aaron Ross came on in relief to pitch a scoreless seventh inning.

Due to the rain wiping out three days, the tournament structure was changed to a single elimination tournament thus Shippensburg’s season has ended. They will turn to be the host as the remaining four teams will descend on Memorial Park Thursday to determine who will represent Region 4 in the state Tournament Saturday in Boyertown.

Waynesboro leads Richland 5-0 in the 3rd inning and will begin play at 10:30 AM. New Cumberland and Ephrata will play at 12:00 PM in the other game with the two winners playing for the championship shortly after.
