Shippensburg softball

HEARTBREAKING! it is the only word to describe the 10-9 loss to Chambersburg in the Mid-Penn semi-final game at Big Spring High School on Tuesday.

Commonwealth champion Chambersburg tallied seven runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead and later extending the lead to 8-0 heading to the fifth inning.

Colonial Division champion Shippensburg started a rally and Morgan Fetter closed the gap quickly with grand slam to cut the deficit to 8-6. In the sixth, the Greyhounds, Hayleigh Highlands bounced a home run off the top of the fence in left and later took a 9-8 lead.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Valley Trojans put runners on base with two outs. A foul pop up behind third base for what would have been the third out, dropped safely to the turf. A wild pitch and a hit and the Trojans grabbed a 10-9 lead.

Shippensburg went down in order in the bottom of the seventh. The y now await the District 3 Class 5A power ratings to see who their first round opponent will be. The Greyhounds will host their opening game.
