
SCOTLAND — The Chambersburg baseball team swept a doubleheader from Mifflin County on Tuesday afternoon, winning its fifth straight game, moving its record to 11-8 and jumping up to No. 9 in the District 3 Class 6A rankings.
The Trojans, who finished 9-5 in the Mid Penn Commonwealth, prevailed 4-3 in 12 innings in the opener, then took an 8-3 victory in the second game.
In the opener, the game stretched out to its fifth extra inning before a double on an 0-2 pitch by Max Armstrong drove in the winning run.
Mifflin County trailed 3-1 before scoring twice in the top of the seventh.
Kaden Hoover pitched 4 innings of 2-hit, shutout relief to earn the victory. Austin Kopp hurled the first 8 innings, giving up 3 runs on 8 hits. Spencer Hockensmith was 2-for-5 with 3 runs batted in for Chambersburg.
In the second game, the Trojans scored 4 runs in the second inning, then, after the Huskies got close with 3 in the third, sealed it with 4 more runs in the fifth inning.
Spencer Seaman picked up the win with 5 innings of work, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits. Elijah Snyder pitched the final two hitless innings, striking out 2.
Seaman also went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. Aaden Newman was 2-for-2, and Austin Kopp and Bailey Leedy each had 2 RBIs, with Kopp’s both coming on sacrifice flies.
Chambersburg is scheduled to finish its regular season with a non-league game at Spring Grove on Wednesday at 4:15.
